Norovirus Outbreaks Around the Country
The need for whole-room disinfection
First, may I say again… Wash your hands well and often! This simple, yet vital, act is our first line of defense to any infection.
And please, if you or your child is showing symptoms… stay home and stay hydrated.
Norovirus, one of the most communicable viral infections spread rapidly especially during this time of year. As cold weather envelops much of the nation, we remain indoors and that one component of proximity gives the Norovirus a perfect opportunity for easy and fast transmission.
Exposure can come in many forms; from simply touching a contaminated surface, to coming in contact with someone infected but asymptomatic at the moment. Often, Norovirus appears as the flu within 24-48 hours of exposure to the virus.
Symptoms can include:
- abdominal pain
- fever and chills
- muscle aches and tiredness
- may last 1- 3 or 4 days
It has been instrumental in shutting down schools, but also can take a trip on busses and other modes of transportation, infecting those who come in contact with the virus. Fitness facilities can be a breeding ground for infections and should be routinely and thoroughly disinfected to safeguard its membership.
Norovirus can deplete businesses of it’s employees for days, which can become very costly and disruptive.
It is increasingly important to safeguard ourselves in our daily life and demand that disinfection precautions are put in place in areas where infections are most likely to be found and easily transmitted.
